Lurgio News for January 31, 2020

LURGIO NEWS
January 31, 2020

Dear Lurgio Families,

As many of you are aware, flu season is in full swing.  If your child is showing symptoms of the flu, it is important to consult with a doctor.  If your child is diagnosed with the flu and/or shows flu like symptoms such as a fever, it is important to keep him/her home.  Please remember, when students are sick--fever, vomiting, diarrhea, etc...--they need to be out of school for at least 24 hours after they are symptom-free. This helps to ensure that they do not spread their illness to other students and staff members.

Please remember, students who are absent from school can check in with teachers via email or log in to Google classroom to stay apprised of current academic work.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our school nurse, Evelyn Chessie 310-9100  x 34415

Sincerely,

Ed Joyce

New News

Cub of the Week

Each week, teachers nominate students for the Cub of the Week Award. Nominated students are those who have shown exceptional kindness, tolerance, and respect during the week. Each Friday, the Lurgio administration and guidance staff will review all nominees and will select the “Cub of the Week.”
This week’s Cub of the Week is Maggie Foxx. Maggie always has a positive attitude with her peers and teachers and is willing to help wherever she sees a need. Recently, Maggie was nominated by her teacher for organizing all of the lab stations after a science lab. She washed all the cups and put them back into sets in order to prepare for the next class. Thank you, Maggie, for making Lurgio a wonderful place to learn.

Krispy Kreme Fundraiser for Prom

The BHS Prom Committee is holding their annual Krispy Kreme fundraiser. If you would like to pre-order a box (or more) of donuts, please use this link. Pick up is Tuesday, February 11th, at Primary voting from 7 am- 7pm. Boxes will also be on sale until donuts run out.

A Note From the Athletic Director

Participants in Lurgio’s athletic and extracurricular programs are held to a high standard of conduct. Our school community expects our athletes and participants to consistently exemplify our core values of respect for others, self and school. Sportsmanship is a key value of our middle school sports teams. As members of the Tri-County League, we are expected to “conduct inter-school relationships in a spirit of good sportsmanship.” It is important for all members of the sport community including coaches, parents, players, and spectators to demonstrate and encourage respectful, positive conduct.

Additionally, Lurgio Middle School athletic contests are public events scheduled after normal school hours. Students who attend as spectators are expected to attend the game and cannot be guaranteed supervision outside of the gymnasium area. Please take this into consideration as you schedule after school arrangements for your student.
