Lurgio News for January 3, 2020

LURGIO NEWS
January 3, 2020

Dear Lurgio Families,

Happy New Year! I hope that each of you enjoyed the holidays. After a well deserved break, the energy of the staff and students is strong as we begin 2020. I know that some find the long New England winter begins to drag as we head through January, but the excitement of the heart of the academic year always goes so fast for me.

Please note, mid-year teacher conferences will be held at the end of the month for 8th grade students as we begin the course registration process. Please keep your eyes peeled for upcoming dates and announcements as we head into this exciting season. Parent conferences for 7th grade students will take place later in the spring as we gear up for the transition to 8th grade.

Sincerely,

Ed Joyce

Book Buzz

Books for Breakfast will meet again on Friday, January 10, but in the meantime, feel free to dive into this new book Up for Air by Laurie Morrison:

Thirteen-year-old Annabelle struggles in school, no matter how hard she tries. But as soon as she dives into the pool, she’s unstoppable. She’s the fastest girl on the middle school swim team, and when she’s asked to join the high school team over the summer, everything changes. Suddenly, she’s got new friends, and a high school boy starts treating her like she’s somebody special—and Annabelle thinks she’ll finally stand out in a good way. She’ll do anything to fit in and help the team make it to the Labor Day Invitational, even if it means blowing off her old friends. But after a prank goes wrong, Annabelle is abandoned by the older boy and can’t swim. Who is she without the one thing she’s good at? Heartwarming and relatable, Up for Air is a story about where we find our self-worth.
