Each week, teachers nominate students for the Cub of the Week Award. Nominated students are those who have shown exceptional kindness, tolerance, and respect during the week. Each Friday, the Lurgio administration and guidance staff will review all nominees and will select the the “Cub of the Week.” The Cub will be announced in the Lurgio News.

This week’s Cub is Jacob Brisson.  Jacob is known by teachers and staff for being a conscientious, thoughtful student.  This week, Jacob went out of his way to help a fellow student in the lunchroom and brighten their day. Great job Jacob!  Your behavior is a shining examples of what makes Lurgio a great place to be.

Cardigan Medication
Hello 8th Grade Parents.  Cardigan will be here before we know it!!  If your student requires any prescription medication  during the Cardigan trip, please bring it to school between Tuesday, October 11 and Friday, October 14. All medications need to be here prior to Monday, October 17. Prescription medication needs to be in the labeled, prescribed bottle with only those doses needed for the trip.  Please bring the Medication Physician Permission Form found here, with MD signature. Tylenol and Motrin will be available for students as needed.  If there are any over the counter medications needed for your student, please drop them off to the health office as well.  Thank you!  If you have any questions, please contact Evelyn Chessie, RAL School Nurse.

A Note from our School Cafeteria:
Eating breakfast at school helps children perform better.  Studies show that children who eat breakfast regularly are less likely to be overweight and have a better quality of nutrient intake.

We serve breakfast daily at Ross Lurgio Middle School between 8:15-8:50 am. A complete Grab N Go breakfast is offered for $1.25.  Students may use their lunch account to purchase a grab n go breakfast. Options include:  Breakfast sandwiches, whole grain muffins, bagels and pancakes,  just to name a few. All breakfasts include a variety of fresh fruit and low-fat milk

Cell Phone Use - UPDATED INFORMATION
State law restricts the use of photography and video recording in the school setting, which includes our dining hall, the school grounds, and the school buses. Because of this and other privacy concerns, we prohibit students from using their cell phones to take pictures or video of themselves or others (students & staff) while in the school setting, including on their bus rides. Thank you for your support in reinforcing this important practice as we continue to educate our students about appropriate use of their personal electronic devices.

Parent Pick-up
For the safety of all our students, please remember to follow all of the guidelines for our parent pick-up procedures [click here]. We ask that everyone take particular note of the following:
  1. Only pick up students in the designated lot (closest to the school); do not have students walk down to a different lot.
  2. Please pull all the way forward to the rear school exits on both sides of the pick-up lot.
  3. The main traffic circle is for use by students with physical restrictions and for our athletic dismissals during parent pick-up.
  4. Please do not leave a car unattended in the pick-up lot during afternoon dismissal.
Thank you for your cooperation. With everyone’s help we can make the afternoon pick-up procedure smooth and safe for all our students.

Executive Functioning Skills:  The “Air Traffic Control” of our brains.  RAL is piloting a new curriculum this year to help students identify and strengthen these very important “life skills.” An overview of the program is available on the Behavior Specialist’s website:   Ms. Stone, Behavior Specialist

Skill of the Week:  Over the next few weeks, we will continue working on the skill of Organization.  We are now working on organizing our thoughts.

When we need to communicate ideas, needs, opinions, it is important that our message is clear and can be understood as we intend it.   As students mature and the curriculum becomes more complex and abstract, the ability to frame and order our communications becomes more difficult yet more important.   A very useful, versatile, and FREE website, Lucid Chart for Education, to assist in this process can be found at Skill of the Week: Organization Part 2

Anyone still interested in participating in Destination Imagination this year must register their child by Thursday, October 6th with our DI Coordinator.  To learn more about the program and how to provide your child with this enrichment opportunity, please contact  Marie Russell at bedfordrocksdi@gmail.com.

Each Friday, the Lurgio administration and guidance staff will review all nominees and will select the the “Cub of the Week.” The Cub will be announced in the Lurgio News.

This week’s Cub is Miles McCombs from pod 7-North. Miles, amidst a din of students in the hallway, Miles stopped to help another student pick-up a pencil case’s contents after the case tumbled out of the student’s locker and its contents spilled across the floor. The kindness of students like Miles is what makes Lurgio Middle School a special place to be!
