Lurgio News for September 27, 2019

LURGIO NEWS
September 27, 2019

Dear Lurgio Families,
Today concluded the 47th annual Cardigan Experience trip for our 8th grade students. This year I had the privilege of accompanying Campgroup Delta on the mountain Monday through Wednesday. After spending three days with these students, I am thoroughly impressed with the genuine kindness and support that the students voluntarily extended to one another throughout the trip. It was awe inspiring.

I would also like to extend a very heartfelt thank you to our volunteers, staff, and camp group leaders.  It is through their patience, hard work, and dedication that this years’ trip was a success.

Enjoy,

Ed Joyce

New News

Cub of the Week

Each week, teachers nominate students for the Cub of the Week Award. Nominated students are those who have shown exceptional kindness, tolerance, and respect during the week. Each Friday, the Lurgio administration and guidance staff will review all nominees and will select the “Cub of the Week.”

This week, we had a group of Lurgio students who went above and beyond for their peers and we have three picks for Cub of the Week.

This week’s Cub of the Week is Maddie Magay. Maddie went out of her way to help 7th grade students navigate the building by helping them read their schedules and offering to walk them to class.

This week’s Cub of the Week is Patrick Zelanes. Patrick supported a fellow student by talking them through an assignment until they felt confident and successful on their own.

Thank you, Maddie and Patrick. Your awareness of those around you and your willingness to lend a helping hand are truly inspiring to our school community. You make Lurgio a great place to learn.

Cardigan Trip for 8th Grade Students

It’s finally here! The 2019 trip to Mount Cardigan will take place next week. Blue and Red Pods will be in the White Mountains from Monday to Wednesday, and Green and Gold Pods will head out from Wednesday to Friday. Any time we are supervising students, and in particular when we have kids heading outdoors, safety is our first concern. In preparation for Cardigan, the eighth grade teachers have been helping each individual student pack their gear, and one key component is insect repellent. Based on our staff pre-hike last weekend, we do not anticipate a buggy trip; however, because this year’s excursion is earlier in the fall, we do want to be prepared. Additional preventative measures like fires at the campsites and backup repellent at the lodge should help as well.

The Bedford Food Pantry, through their School Lunch Plus program, provides students in Bedford who face food insecurity two lunches each weekend (with complete privacy/anonymity). Parents/guardians, please contact the school guidance counselor or school nurse if you would like your child to participate in this program.
