New News

Bedford High School Course Registration (8th Graders)
From Bob Jozokos, Principal:

Here is last night’s presentation about selecting high school courses for next year. I embedded the Course Selection Tutorial into the Program of Studies. The tutorial is in the Course Selection Resources tab at the top of the page. One frequently asked question last night after the public questions ended was about Band, and I want to take this opportunity to repeat it here. The question was, “Can a 9th grader fit Band and In Writing into their freshman schedule when they take all the other typical subjects including world languages?”  The answer is yes, and the result is that they would only have managed time during one of their semesters (the one when they don’t have In Writing).

See you on May 7th for the 8th Grade Parent Information Night.

Reminders

A Note From the Athletic Director
Participants in Lurgio’s athletic and extracurricular programs are held to a high standard of conduct. Our school community expects our athletes and participants to consistently exemplify our core values of respect for others, self and school. Sportsmanship is a key value of our middle school sports teams. As members of the Tri-County League, we are expected to “conduct inter-school relationships in a spirit of good sportsmanship.” It is important for all members of the sport community including coaches, parents, players, and spectators to demonstrate and encourage respectful, positive conduct.

Additionally, Lurgio Middle School athletic contests are public events scheduled after normal school hours. Students who attend as spectators are expected to attend the game and cannot be guaranteed supervision outside of the gymnasium area. Please take this into consideration as you schedule after school arrangements for your student.

Study Skills Workshop
Does your 7th grade student need help with Study Skills?  Join the high school librarian and the middle school librarian in a workshop addressing important topics for academic success. The workshops will be held during the “What I Need” (WIN) period on January 28th and January 30th. If your student is interested, please have your student stop by the library to register or email Ms. Detwiler detwilera@sau25.net with your child’s name and homeroom. Thank you!

Book Buzz
We are thrilled to announce that Books for Breakfast Cafe will be hosting author Erin Moulton on February 7th. Check out her book, Keepers of the Labyrinth, before meeting the author in two weeks:

Lilith Bennette runs at midnight. She scales walls in the dark and climbs without a harness. She hopes that if she follows exactly in the steps of her strong air force pilot mother, she’ll somehow figure out the mystery of her mother’s death—and the reason why her necklace of Greek symbols has been missing ever since. So when Lil is invited to Crete for a Future Leaders International conference, the same conference her mom attended years ago, she jumps at the chance to find some answers. But things in Melios Manor are not what they seem. Lil finds herself ensnared in an adventure of mythological proportions that leads her and her friends through the very labyrinth in which the real Minotaur was imprisoned. And they’re not in there alone. What secrets does the labyrinth hold, and will they help Lil find the truth about her mother? This book is perfect for older fans of Percy Jackson and the Olympians and the Heroes of Olympus--and anyone who wants to find out the true story behind the magic of the Greek gods.
Today, we also buzzed about the Allie Conde book Not if I Save You First:
Maddie thought she and Logan would be friends forever. But when your dad is a Secret Service agent and your best friend is the president's son, sometimes life has other plans. Before she knows it, Maddie's dad is dragging her to a cabin in the middle of the Alaskan wilderness. No phone. No Internet. And not a single word from Logan. Maddie tells herself it's okay. After all, she's the most popular girl for twenty miles in any direction. (She’s also the only girl for twenty miles in any direction.) She has wood to cut and weapons to bedazzle. Her life is full. Until Logan shows up six years later... And Maddie wants to kill him. But before that can happen, an assailant appears out of nowhere, knocking Maddie off a cliff and dragging Logan to some unknown fate. Maddie knows she could turn back- and get help. But the weather is turning and the terrain will only get more treacherous, the animals more deadly. Maddie still really wants to kill Logan. But she has to save him first.
