Lurgio News for November 16, 2018

LURGIO NEWS
November 16, 2018

Dear Parents,

What a week! We certainly faced some challenging situations over the last few days. But every time Lurgio faces challenges, what I am most struck with is not the adversities themselves but rather the manner in which we overcome them together. This week our entire community, especially our students, demonstrated incredible poise and resilience. I am so proud. Thank you for sending us your children each week!

All the best,

Ed Joyce
Principal

Free Parent Support and Training - School Avoidance
Are you struggling with a child who does not want to come to school?  Bedford School District is offering a free program to support families with this concern.  Every Tuesday @ 10am in the Lurgio Guidance Department. Sessions are facilitated by Cynthia Kenney. Please contact Lurgio Guidance at 310-9101 with questions.

This week Students Against Destructive Decisions teamed up with the Lurgio Jazz Band to decorate the school proclaiming their intention to “Band together to be Drug Free”.  The kids were really “Jazzed up to be Drug Free” as they worked together creating Thanksgiving spirit with a twist.  Watch for our next collaborative Winter Wonderland project when S.A.D.D. teams up with Books For Breakfast.

Lurgio Tech Corner Update

In order to avoid confusion, Lurgio has had to disable the progress reports that have been available through PowerSchool. We are working closely with PowerSchool to find a solution to this report as well as the view that is on the mobile app. In the meantime, if you wish to view your students’ progress, please log into PowerSchool on your computer or chromebook.

As quarter 1 comes to a close, we are happy to report that 63% of our students did not need to borrow a daily loaner at all this quarter!!  With the new quarter comes a clean loaner slate for all students. This quarter we have implemented a change in our procedure. We will email parents when their child has borrowed a Chromebook for the third time. This email is to notify you that your child has met with the Tech Team and has come up with a plan to be better prepared. Please continue to remind your child to charge their Chromebook every night!
