Lurgio News for January 4, 2018

LURGIO NEWS
January 04, 2019

Dear Lurgio Community,

There is no getting around the fact that today was difficult for us all. I must extend a huge thank you to parents and staff for your support today. Throughout this challenge, I was very impressed with the grace and patience that I experienced with all of you in a situation that would have rattled most. Thank you.

I must also thank the Lurgio staff. The staff response was equally impressive. After my initial announcement, our staff took the lead in giving comfort and good information to our students. Teachers adapted lessons and shifted plans to do their best to keep some degree of normalcy.

As for our students, they have my empathy and concern. Being the father of a seventh and ninth grader, I do not underestimate the stress that such situations place upon a child. If your child is having a difficult time with this situation and you would like some advice, our guidance department stands at the ready and would be happy to help.

Per Mr. Fournier’s email, the Police have determined the threat to be non-credible, and we will continue normal school operations next week. The entire Lurgio staff will continue to keep a watchful eye on our students.

All my best,

Ed

New News

Lurgio Tech Corner

Over the recent vacation, we have made some changes to student’s school google accounts. Due to a law enacted by the NH Legislation (to view click HERE - section V), school districts are required to review and approve all online apps and extensions for student use to ensure they comply with State and Federal data privacy guidelines and laws. As a result, only approved apps/extensions that are needed for school use will be allowed to be installed with a school google account. Terry Bullard, the District Tech Director has already approved several tools, apps and extensions. The District will continue to add to the approved list when necessary. We know that this is a change from current practice and appreciate your understanding during this transition. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to email Donna Dennis at dennisd@sau25.net.

Coed Volleyball

Coed Volleyball tryouts will begin on Monday, February 4th, immediately following dismissal. All students in grades 7 and 8 are welcome to try out. Stand By Me- Hannaford Fundraiser
The Stand By Me Hannaford fundraiser will run from 12/23/18-1/19/19. All proceeds generated by the book bin at the Bedford Hannaford (Jenkins Road) will be donated to the Stand By Me program.

How it works:

The book bin located at the front of the store, and people donate used books for others to purchase. Every two weeks, Hannaford donates all of the proceeds from the book bin to a different cause.

How to help:

DONATE BOOKS ‐  Drop off books to the bin that you would like to donate. Both adult and children books are accepted.

PURCHASE BOOKS ‐ Please take a few minutes to browse the used books in the Hannaford Book Bin during the first two weeks of January. It is an inexpensive way to build your child’s library or to find a good book for yourself!

Book Buzz

We had lots of holiday book talks today at Books for Breakfast.

Joe M. of 7-North was buzzing about Matt Myklush’s Jack Blank and the Imagine Nation:

I wanted to share this awesome book! Jack is an orphan and doesn't even know his last name and that's why he is called Jack Blank. A visitor comes by saying he'll be deported  but in reality taken to an island where magical things happen. Jack wonders if he is really from this island originally? They ran a scan on him and found he had a virus. A different kind of virus though -- was he part robot since he can control technology? He is swept into an adventure to know his life. This is a series and I've read them all. check it out!
