Stand by Me 2015: Friday, May 15th from 9:00-2:30PM
A special message to our 8th Grade Parents!

Our RAL community is abuzz about our special yearly event!  The Stand By Me program is about to celebrate it's 26th year!  As you already know, Stand By Me is run by parent volunteers with support from Lurgio Middle School staff and funded by the local community.  This special day cannot happen without the support of great volunteers. With the event being a month out, we are looking for those who would like to come back to volunteer their time.   Even if it is for only part of the day, we would love to have you join us!  Please visit our signup at:  http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f094ba4ad2ea02-stand  Further questions?  Feel free to contact  Kristin Desmarais or  Lisa Nash.

Thank you for your consideration!

National History Bee Regionals
Congratulations to the five Bedford School District students invited to compete in the National History Bee Regional Competition in Boston this past weekend.  Julian Chung, Ethan Cline, Tim Green, Isabella Poschmann and Will Theodore represented Bedford and New Hampshire proudly and admirably.  Special congratulations to Isabella Poschmann who, after three rounds of quizzes, had a cumulative score that qualified her to advance to the national competition in Louisville Kentucky over Memorial Day weekend.

Good luck in Louisville, Isabella!

Book Buzz!
7-South student Emma is buzzing about the memoir I Am Malala by Malala Yousafzai:

Malala Yousafzai lived in Pakistan and stood up for what she believed in.  She believed that girls had the right to attend school and the right to an education even in Pakistan.  No matter where a girl lives, she has the right to go to school.  She stood up, was targeted by the Taliban, and was shot but was actually made even stronger.  Her courage, even in the hospital and not even crying once, impresses me a lot.  Kids should read this memoir to learn about other kids our age around the world.  We should learn how other kids live and experience school.  It's amazing to see how other kids, who don't have the privileges that we have, like school, have to live and manage.

Smarter Balanced Test
This is just a reminder that we sent out an informational letter about the Smarter Balanced testing a while back. If you missed that communication, please click here to view the letter.

Lurgio Wins Tri-County Athletics Sportsmanship Award
Lurgio Middle School has been awarded the Tri-County Athletics 2014-2015 Division I Sportsmanship Award. All Lurigo athletes and coaches should be very proud of how they’ve conducted themselves during their games/matches. Although it is always exciting to win championships, that feeling may be fleeting. This Sportsmanship Award shows that the Lurgio community values strong character and respect of others, two important attributes that will affect our student-athletes well into their futures. Go Lions!

Lurgio Tennis Club
The Lurgio Tennis Club meets every Monday, Wednesday, & Friday morning from 7:00 a.m. to 8:20 a.m. If you have any questions about the Tennis Club, please contact Coach Luby at bobluby.pamluby@verizon.net

Bedford Crew Club
The Bedford Crew Club is once again holding a camp for current 7th and 8th graders (those who will be entering 8th and 9th grade in the fall of 2015).  The camp is open to anyone in this age group who wants to learn to row or improve his/her current skills.  Campers must be enrolled in the Bedford School District.  Campers will be broken down into groups by experience and ability, no experience is necessary.  Lots of fun and laughs are guaranteed!  It’s a great opportunity to see if rowing is what you might like to do in high school.  Or, if you know it’s what you want to do, it’s a great way to get a head start!
Or, to register, please go to, http://www.bedfordcrew.org/.  Click on the link for summer camp registration
