Lurgio News for August 6, 2019

LURGIO NEWS
August 6, 2019

Dear Lurgio Families,

I hope that you all are enjoying a wonderful summer and that you have been able to find a bit of rest and relaxation. It’s hard to believe that we’ve arrived in August, and the first day of school will be here before we know it. The Lurgio staff has been working to prepare for the arrival of students later this month, and we look forward to the new school year with great anticipation.

Throughout the coming year the Lurgio News will serve as the primary source of information from the school. We will send the News to all parents via email using the PowerSchool Message Sender every Friday afternoon. Back issues can be found on the website by clicking on the Lurgio News button. These newsletters are organized each week with a calendar of important dates at the top followed by current updates and concluding with reminders from past weeks and other weekly features.

We always try to lead with the most important and relevant news items first, and this week is no different. In fact, the reason you are receiving this “special edition” news on a Tuesday instead of our typical Friday is that our parent registration portal, Infosnap, opens tomorrow afternoon (see lead news item below).

I hope you find these weekly newsletters a helpful method of keeping apprised of what is happening here at Lurgio. Please expect the next edition of the Lurgio News on Friday, August 16.

All my best to you as you enjoy these waning weeks of summer.

Sincerely,

Ed Joyce

Advisory on Student Schedules

New in the 2019-2020 school year, all students at Lurgio will be assigned to an advisory period that will meet every Silver Day in the morning. The mission of this advisory period is to balance the academic, social, and emotional growth of students by developing more connections within the school community to foster a positive and safe school culture and climate. Specific goals for advisory include working on self-management, developing interpersonal skills, and fostering responsible decision making. During this initial pilot year, Lurgio administration will be communicating with families about advisory topics and other important information as we develop this exciting new program.

School Supply Lists

The Lurgio school supply lists have been posted on our website. Please click here for the general seventh grade supply list. Click here for the general 8th grade supply list. For supply information specific to the 8th grade trip to Mount Cardigan, click here.

Cardigan Chaperones

Please remember that if you are interested in chaperoning the 8th grade trip to Cardigan, you need to complete the Cardigan Chaperone Form and register for a background check at the SAU. All background checks need to be completed by Friday, August 30. An information night for Cardigan chaperones will be held on Tuesday, September 10. Thank you so much for the continued community support of this fantastic program!
