Dear Students and Parents,
I want to extend a huge thank you to all of our parents and PTG volunteers who put on a fantastic smorgasbord for our teachers on Wednesday evening during parent-teacher conferences. It’s truly heartwarming to see the tremendous support that our community has for the work that our teachers do.
Speaking of heartwarming feasts, with the Thanksgiving break coming up next week, school will only be in session on Monday and Tuesday. Due to the abbreviated school week, there will be no Lurgio News next week. Please look for our next edition on December 1.

Cub of the Week
Each week, teachers nominate students for the Cub of the Week Award. Nominated students are those who have shown exceptional kindness, tolerance, and respect during the week. Each Friday, the Lurgio administration and guidance staff will review all nominees and will select the the “Cub of the Week.”
This week’s Cub is John Nasr from pod 7-West. John is being recognized for being particularly empathetic and supportive of his classmates. Congratulations, John! You make Lurgio a great place to learn!

Lurgio Tech Corner Update
Over the past few weeks, we have noticed an increase in the number of students who are not being prepared with their chromebooks. Many are forgetting to charge their chromebooks or forgetting their chromebooks at home.
We would love your help! Please help your kids come up with a system/plan to charge their chromebooks every night and to bring them to school every day.
Celebrate Computer Science Week - Try an Hour of Code
Lurgio will be holding and after school Hour of Code event on Wednesday, December 6 from 3:15-4:30 in room A129 - Ms. Brunelle's room to Celebrate Computer Science Week. We are also excited to have Mitch Marchand, President of Vibe Software and 2013 BHS graduate join us to share DevKit an iOS application that he developed, that is designed to teach programming concepts and logic to aspiring software developers. Every Friday morning our Books for Breakfast crew gets together in the media center to share their appetite for reading. This week it was an absolute feast of books in anticipation of the Thanksgiving break:

Stella and her brother witness an event that frightens and stuns them. A chain reaction of events keep this a fast moving story.

Nothing like a James Bond, action-packed story about an art heist! Check out Framed by James Ponti. This is the first is the Toast series where Florian Bates works for the FBI as a middle school student. His mother says he can work for the FBI as long as he gets his homework done first.

I can't wait to finish the book, Well That Was Awkward. Rachel Vail totally understands eighth grade girls, their cell phone use and how they talk about boys all the time. The first sentence of this book will stun you. That is how the author brings substance to this book. It's a great story about crushes, heartbreak, and friendship that will make you laugh and cry. Meet Gracie and all her friends and get caught up in this middle school cell phone world.

He despises all the Nazis stand for but he joins the Hitler Youth to play the part and gain insider knowledge. This is a fast paced, action packed story based on true events. MANCHESTER MONARCHS-Discount Tickets - Join the PTG at the Manchester Monarchs Ugly Sweater Holiday Game on Saturday, December 9th, at 6pm as they take on the Royals. What is Vaping?
November 27 from 7 - 8 pm at the Bedford Public Library
Bedford Police Chief John Bryfonski, Officer “Spike” Donahue and Officer Danielle Nightingale, School Resource Officers at Bedford High School/Ross A. Lurgio Middle School and McKelvie Intermediate School respectively, will give you the facts about vaping. Can you smell it? Can people vape marijuana? Can people vape other substances? What does a vape look like? Where do people get vapes? Is it legal for kids to vape? In addition, Dr. Joseph Hou, Pulmonologist at Catholic Medical Center, will also provide clinical information on vaping. Is it addictive? Is it harmful? How does it affect young people? How does it compare to smoking? The 40 minute presentation will be followed by a 20 minute question and answer session. Get your questions about vaping answered!
Powerschool Portal Update
Improvements have been made to the PowerSchool Parent Portal. The student score sheets are now easier to read as it is no longer necessary to click the “blue triangle” to see your child’s assignment scores. Adding to the convenience of the page, each of the columns are sortable.
Two other features to note in Powerschool are the report card and missing assignments report. The report card is an up to the minute accurate report of your child’s progress in their classes. The missing assignments report is a quick way to make sure that your child has completed their assignments.

S.S. American Sets Sail on the Bedford High Stage
Anything Goes opens November 9 and runs through November 18 on the Bedford High School stage. A beloved classic of American Musical Theatre, Anything Goes delights with epic tap dancing, romance and mayhem all aboard an ocean liner bound for London. Cole Porter’s songs, including “De-Lovely,” “I Get a Kick Out of You,” and, of course, the great title song, “Anything Goes,” will leave the audience humming their tunes for days. Sailors, gangsters, showgirls, a wealthy Englishman, and a Wall Street tycoon are all characters brought to life by this talented Bedford High cast. Come aboard for this once-in-a-lifetime adventure! Pats Peak Learn to Ski & Ride Program:
This is a five-week Learn to Ski or Snowboard series for students in grades 1-8. The program runs Friday, January 5, 12, 19, 26 and February 2. Rentals are available. You must provide your own transportation.
