8th Grade End of Year Events
Attention 8th graders:  As the end of your time at Lurgio approaches, you have many exciting events and activities in your near future.  The fun kicks off with the eighth grade dance on Friday, June 5th.  Admission to this 8th grade only dance is free, and it has its own unique theme.  On Monday, June 15, the 8th grade goes to Canobie Lake Park, and because your teachers love rides and carnival games as much as they love you this will be an extended day.  You will all stay until the park closes at 4PM and buses will be back to Lurgio between 4:30 and 5:00PM. On Tuesday, June 16th, the student council sponsors the 8th grade feast.  On this day, the entire 8th grade enjoys a feast and then sign each other’s yearbooks.  Enjoy!

BSD Food Service - End of Year Message
The Bedford School’s Food Service Program is a firm believer that a hungry child will struggle to learn, so we take great pride in serving nutritious meals each and every day! Therefore, it is very important and necessary for all student lunch accounts to be PAID-IN-FULL with no outstanding balances by the last day of school. Also, remember that your student’s account balance will carry over each year, even if they are moving up to a new school. If they have a positive balance at the end of the year it will be there for them to start again on August 27th, leaving one less thing for you to think about during those first few days of the new academic year!

Enjoy a great summer vacation!

From your Food Service Staff

Lurgio Dress Code
We have completed the dress code revision process. With significant input from students, parents, and staff members, we hope that the few small changes we have incorporated will provide students the opportunity to dress comfortably while maintaining an appropriate level of modesty and decorum for the learning environment. Please click here to review the new dress code. All changes are effective immediately.

DI Off to Global Finals
8th Graders Aish Deva, Amanda Poza, Emma Jacobs, Niamh Russell, Natalie Anderson and Sasha Hordiychuk are off to Knoxville, TN next week to represent New Hampshire in the Destination Imagination Global Finals.  This week they received the news that they have been assigned a Buddy Team from China!  We have no doubt but they will enjoy this wonderful opportunity and we wish them well.

CBY@RAL Summer Leadership Retreats
Is your student part of CBY@RAL or CBY@BHS?  There is a great opportunity taking place this summer.  Youth members of the Coalition for Bedford Youth have the chance to attend two leadership retreats this coming summer.  CBY is a group of 8th-12th graders that work together to promote healthy assets (as seen on our website- click HERE) through various activities. In many situations our older more experienced members will guide and teach the younger members leadership skills and knowledge of the organization.  However, all of the students can benefit from more formal leadership training not only to find and develop their personal inner leaders, but to build leadership continuity and encourage a collaborative environment bringing new leaders along. Training will also enhance the group dynamic through understanding the underpinnings of good leadership and building personal toolboxes that lead to teamwork with multiple leader styles.  We are hoping these programs will help all our CBYers develop their inner leader, because all students lead differently within their peer group and community.  These two leadership opportunities are open to ALL CBYers... CBY@RAL and CBY@BHS... 8th-12th grade (including CURRENT 7th graders)!

ADVENTURELORE: Friday, June 26, 2015 9 am – 3 pm
DRIFTWOOD: Friday August 14 – Sunday August 16, 2015

Please contact CBY (by e-mail info@cbynh.org) for more information regarding the two leadership opportunities.

Superintendent Feedback Survey Results
From Superintendent McGee:

You may recall that I recently asked you to complete a survey on my performance this year. The purpose of the survey was to gather feedback to improve.  Here are the results. Thank you to the respondents (107 employees, 321 parents, 4 students, and 14 community members).  One competency where I was rated relatively high was "listens, analyzes and responds to issues related to the needs of the community (including students, teachers, parents and residents)."  One competency that was relatively low was “recognizes diversity and promotes acceptance and tolerance within the school district community.”  I appreciate all the feedback and will work, in particular, on doing a better job recognizing diversity and promoting acceptance and tolerance.

BHS Parent Information Night
An 8th grade Parent Information Night is scheduled on May 21 at 6:00pm in the theater.  During this session our BHS Leadership Team will talk about the "Nuts and Bolts" of high school from the schedule to competencies to extra curricular involvement.
