Updated DHHS Travel & Contact Tracing Guidelines

Per Superintendent Fournier, from DHHS:

-Domestic travel within the U.S. no longer requires quarantine upon return to NH (regardless of COVID-19 vaccination status), this includes domestic travel to U.S. territories.

-A new study published in the journal Clinical Infectious Diseases is the first to show that in the setting of universal face mask use in classrooms, COVID-19 infection rates were equivalent for schools that implemented either a minimum of 3 feet or 6 feet of physical distancing. Therefore, NH DPHS will not recommend quarantine for students or staff if a COVID-19 exposure occurs in the classroom setting where students and staff are seated and spaced at least 3 feet apart with consistent and correct face mask use.

This is for in school contact tracing only.  Outside organizations will still conduct their own contact tracing: 3 feet of distancing applies to controlled areas only (i.e. classrooms).  It does not apply to recess, lunch and bus.  Those areas will still be contact traced based on 6 feet of distancing.

Reminders

New Hampshire State Testing

This spring, Bedford students will participate in the New Hampshire state-wide assessments. Throughout the state, students in grades 3-8 and 11 take mathematics and English language arts exams. A science test is also given to students in grades 5, 8, and 11. For more information, please click this link.

School Lunches

The Bedford School District will resume serving lunches on trays rather than in boxes effective March 8, 2021.  The FDA has released their findings that Covid-19 is not transmitted via food preparation.  Click HERE to read the article.

Book Buzz

Wonderful to have Booked for Breakfast in person Thursdays in the Media Center 8:00-8:30 in addition to our remote offerings. We have three offerings for your reading options:

Author Donna Gephardt, who has presented at RAL, has a new book out called Abby, Tried and True.

Donna is a cancer survivor herself and has tried on four occasions to craft a book with a main character coping with cancer. Her narrator, Abby, tells the story of her brother's cancer. When Abby Braverman’s best friend, Cat, moves to Israel, she’s sure it’s the worst thing that could happen. But then her older brother, Paul, is diagnosed with cancer, and life upends again. Now it’s up to Abby to find a way to navigate seventh grade without her best friend, help keep her brother’s spirits up during difficult treatments, and figure out her surprising new feelings for the boy next door.

Sigmund Brouwer, our author in pandemic residence who has conducted Story Ninja Writing lessons every week, has a popular book called Unleashed, part of a trilogy.

Jace has it all―money, cars and status. What he doesn’t have is a happy home life. Forced to protect his brother from an abusive father and a neglectful mother, Jace lives a double life on the wrong side of the tracks, learning to box and trying to survive on his own merits while plotting to expose his father as the monster he is. Working reluctantly with two girls who have their own thoughts of vengeance, Jace finds that he is not as alone as he thought and that there are people he can trust. Part of Retribution”―a high-interest trilogy that can be read in any order.

The Brave by James Bird explores the Native American experience.

Perfect for fans of Rain Reign, this middle-grade novel “The Brave” is about a boy with an OCD issue and his move to a reservation to live with his biological mother. Collin can't help himself―he has a unique condition that finds him counting every letter spoken to him. It's a quirk that makes him a prime target for bullies, and a continual frustration to the adults around him, including his father. When Collin asked to leave yet another school, his dad decides to send him to live in Minnesota with the mother he's never met. She is Ojibwe, and lives on a reservation. Collin arrives in Duluth with his loyal dog, Seven, and quickly finds his mom and his new home to be warm, welcoming, and accepting of his condition. Collin’s quirk is matched by that of his neighbor, Orenda, a girl who lives mostly in her treehouse and believes she is turning into a butterfly. With Orenda’s help, Collin works hard to overcome his challenges. His real test comes when he must step up for his new friend and trust his new family.
