Weekly Features

Guidance Corner

On Tuesday evening we had a chance to meet some parents of next year’s 7th grade class!  As you all know, middle school provides an opportunity for students to develop strategies that are essential for academic success.  Here at Lurgio we really enjoy collaborating with families as we support children through this part of their academic journey. Click here for this week’s article “High Expectations”.

Athletics This Week

Coed Track and Field starts on Monday, April 1. Students will meet at Lurgio, run down to Preston Field (behind McKelvie) and then return to Lurgio for pickup. In order to practice, students must have an updated physical on file and hard copies of athletics paperwork to give to their coach. Paperwork can be found on the athletics website.

Students are working to organize a girls’ lacrosse club. Players will do drills, practice techniques, and scrimmage each other over the course of April and May. Practices will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30PM-5:00PM. For more information, contact Mrs. Gauthier at gauthierk@sau25.net.

As always, the weekly schedule is available on our athletics website.

Book Buzz

From Mrs. Detwiler:
This new series is from James Patterson and we were able to get all 5 of them  that you requested thanks to Read-a-Thon money! This is called the TREASURE HUNTERS series and they are hilarious. Twins Bick and Beck Kidd are homeschooled to travel the world with their parents searching for treasure. When their parents are kidnapped they have to find them. Once you read one, you'll want to explore DANGER DOWN THE NILE, SECRET OF THE FORBIDDEN CITY,  PERIL AT THE TOP OF THE WORLD, and QUEST FOR CITY OF GOLD. You'll want to read them in order.
From Nick B. in 7-East:
As a huge James Patterson fan I loved JACKIE HA-HA. Jackie lives in NJ with her dad and her mom is overseas serving in Operation Desert Shield. She craves attention and this attention gets her lots of detentions. The music director said if she wants to erase all her detentions she can join the school play. Jackie hesitates because she has a terrible stutter but she does. She makes jokes all the time working to make people laugh with her so they don't laugh at her. She even enters a speech contest. Patterson always makes me laugh and tells a great story.
From Abhinav V. in 7 West:
The UNWANTEDS is a great series by Lisa McMann. Every year in Quill, thirteen-year-olds are sorted into categories: the strong, intelligent Wanteds go to university, and the artistic Unwanteds are sent to their deaths. Twins Alex and Aaron are separated since one is a Wanted and one is an Unwanted. Alex discovers a secret area of Unwanteds called Artime where creativity is developed and skills are used magically. The brothers end up in a magical battle. This is also a series and I want to read them all.

Special Note: Music in our Schools Concert Tonight

Dear Lurgio Families,

This evening in the Bedford High School Theater the Lurgio Chorus and Band will perform their Music in our School Concert.  This Spring teaser concert has traditionally served as a fundraiser for our music program. This year's goal is to purchase microphones to enhance amplification.  The Bedford Education Foundation has joined Lurgio this year to make this event an even bigger success. There is no official fee for admittance but we will be accepting cash or credit card donations to the Lurgio Middle School Music Program and the Bedford Education Foundation at the door.  Again, no admission is required but donations will be welcomed.

I hope to see you there,

Ed
