Lurgio News for March 6, 2020

LURGIO NEWS
March 6, 2020

Dear Lurgio Families,

I want to take this opportunity to talk about the upcoming vote on Tuesday. Our students will be the direct recipients of the budget planning we’ve done this year. At Lurgio, this means preserving academic programming, retaining teachers who are experts in the content that they are teaching, and renovating facilities for greater community use. You should also know that as part of the budget process we have already removed a significant amount of district-wide requests before the School Board’s proposed budget is getting to you on the ballot. As a resident, taxpayer, and parent, I do my best to be a responsible steward of our tax dollars while providing an excellent education for our children. While I would never tell you how to vote, I do ask that you join me in voting on Tuesday.

Sincerely,

Ed Joyce

Lurgio Voices Vote

Lurgio’s Kid Vote, dubbed the Lurgio Voices Vote, presents a compelling question for students each year. This year, we are taking feedback from parents and staff regarding the amount of screen time that students have, and presenting the following question to the students themselves:

“Given the amount of screen time that students have in their lives, would you prefer that Lurgio school rules be changed to not permit the use of student cell phones at lunch?”

A “Yes” vote on this question means that Lurgio should return to the rule that cell phones are off and in lockers from the morning bell until the dismissal bell.

A “No” vote on this question means that Lurgio should maintain the rule that students can use their cell phones during lunch.

RAL Dance Tonight

Tonight’s dance will take place from 6:00PM-9:00PM in the RAL Dining Hall. Students should be dropped off and picked up in front of the building or in the parent pickup lot. Admission is $5 and snacks will be available for $1.

The customer can place that printout into your school's slot in the Hannaford Helps Schools collection tower, which is located at the front of the store your school is registered with.

NEW for 2020! Customers who shop with Hannaford To Go can either specify which school should receive their School Dollars in their order notes when placing their order, OR let the store associate know which school to give their School Dollars to when they pick their order up from the store.

Book Buzz

Today we were buzzing about Steelheart by Brian Sanderson during Books for Breakfast:
Ten years ago, Calamity came. It was a burst in the sky that gave ordinary men and women extraordinary powers. The awed public started calling them Epics. But Epics are no friend of man. With incredible gifts came the desire to rule. And to rule man you must crush his will. Nobody fights the Epics... nobody but the Reckoners. A shadowy group of ordinary humans, they spend their lives studying Epics, finding their weaknesses, and then assassinating them. And David wants in. He wants Steelheart - the Epic who is said to be invincible. The Epic who killed David's father. For years, like the Reckoners, David's been studying, and planning - and he has something they need. Not an object, but an experience. He's seen Steelheart bleed. And he wants revenge.
