Dear Parents,
Today was Science Career Day. Our 7th grade students spent their morning in wonderful interactive Science presentations. Thank you to the scientific speakers who so generously gave their time to our students. Also, I would like to extend a thank you to our PTG volunteers who ran many of the logistics of the day. Finally, I offer much gratitude to Mr. Dubreuil and Ms. Rockwell for coordinating the event.

Cub of the Week
Each week, teachers nominate students for the Cub of the Week Award. Nominated students are those who have shown exceptional kindness, tolerance, and respect during the week. Each Friday, the Lurgio administration and guidance staff will review all nominees and will select the the “Cub of the Week.”
This week’s Cub is Emily Upton from pod 7-North! Emily has been an exceptionally kind friend to her peers. Emily’s teachers report that this is typical behavior from Emily as she is always thoughtful, polite, and kind. Congratulations, Emily!

“Earth Shaking” News
Through the collaborative support of the Bedford Education Foundation, the Bedford School District, and community funding, Ross A. Lurgio Middle School has the opportunity to partner with the Boston College Weston Observatory to become the Boston College Educational Seismology Project Flagship School for New Hampshire. This project will actually install a fully functioning seismograph at Lurgio. Data collected from this instrument will be used to enhance our eighth grade science curriculum. The data will also be used for research at Boston College and available for the community as well. As a community, we are currently seeking donations to support this project. If you are interested in learning more please contact Tracy Richmond, BEF fundraising chair at tracyrichmond@me.com. This project is sure to have a lasting impact on our community.
RAL Kitchen News
The kitchen is excited to announce that starting in May on every Wednesday the Breakfast Program will be preparing homemade baked items to add to a complete and healthy breakfast! Some of the items will be our own Banana Bread, Blueberry Muffins, Zucchini Bread, Peach Streusel Muffins and Cinnamon Coffee Cake. Be sure to check out these exciting new additions to the program.

It's like suddenly they're supposed to be this other family, one that can survive without bagels and movie theaters.
His suspicions about his new town are confirmed when he's tricked into believing the local general store has life-changing chocolate cream doughnuts, when in fact the owner hasn't made them in years. And so begins the only thing that could make life in Petersville worth living: getting the recipe, making the doughnuts, and bringing them back to the town through his very own doughnut stand. But Tristan will soon discover that when starting a business, it helps to be both Gifted and Talented, and It's possible he's bitten off more than he can chew. |

School Supply Kit Program
Due to unforeseen circumstances with our supplier, PTG will be unable to offer pre-purchased school supply kits to families for 2018/19 school year. Teachers will still provide supply lists that families can utilize to shop on their own for supplies before the start of the school year.
Please note that we will be working on finding an alternative and we hope to re-introduce this program next spring for 2019/20 school year supplies. Thank you for your understanding as we continue to work to find the best supplier to meet Bedford School District’s needs.

Volunteers Needed for Stand By Me
Lurgio Middle School is hosting the 29th year of Stand By Me on Friday, May 18th @ SNHU. This event, for all seventh grade students and their parents/guardians, is in need of volunteers to help the day run smoothly. Since 7th grade families are participating in the event we are looking for volunteers from other grades to help. District Year in Review Community Meetings
Join the Bedford PTG for two upcoming community meetings, first with Principals from all six of our schools on the Tuesday, 5/15 and then with Superintendent McGee on Wednesday, 5/30. Both meetings will be held at BCTV starting at 9:30AM.

Injury Prevention Programs for the Young Athlete at FPTS
James Goodwin, PTA, CSCS, Director of Injury Prevention & Sport Performance, will be combining his knowledge and experience in collegiate and professional athletics, exercise science, and rehab, along with his lifelong experience playing and coaching elite level soccer, to bring a program that is unparalleled in the world of injury prevention, conditioning, and performance education for young athletes participating in any sport. 2018-19 School Calendar
The School Board has approved the 2018-19 School Calendar. Please note that there is a substantial change for 2018-19. The district will shift from tracking days to tracking hours. As a result, the last day of school for 2018-19 will be no later than June 13 and could be as early as June 6. The first five snow days, if needed, will be made up by students at the end of the year. Any snow days beyond five days will not need to be made up by students. This should bring some more predictability to the end of the year for families.
Gsuite Information for Parents
Some of our parents have asked for an explanation of our Gsuite, the tools within Chrome our students now use for much of their school work. Our technology teachers have developed this Gsuite Information for Parents. For parents/guardians who are interested in seeing the work of their child, just ask your son/daughter to log in with their account or provide you with their password to showcase the work completed.
Last Day of School now June 20
The Superintendent announced at Monday's Board Meeting that the last day of school for students is currently June 20. He had a conversation with the NHDOE about the two days we missed school due to the Halloween wind storm this year. Given the circumstances of the storm and our school calendar, we will not have to have students make up those two days at the end of the year.
